Toritake

This yakitori place is apparently famous in Shibuya. I've wanted to try this since last year but I only got to try this a few days ago.

Toritake's yakitori bowl set with miso and pickles. On the upper right is a piece of chicken karaage.

The ambience of the restaurant is very classy. The primary feature of Toritake's interior design is its use of wood. It's a good drinking spot for those who want to hang out with friends and colleagues, but it can also be suitable for a date night. (You can find photos of Toritake's interior design in spot.ph's article.)

The menu is purely chicken, bar the very scant veggie options. To be fair, they do not hide this fact from customers. You can find different cuts of chicken cooked using different kinds of methods in this restaurant.

The yakitori bowl set (pictured above) is grilled and I must say, has a slightly bitter flavor from the char. I don't particularly like it, but the taste is above average. It's juicy and cooked properly. The miso soup is quite delicious, and so were the pickles. What I liked the most were the chicken karaage which were crispy, juicy, and flavorful. Do note these were not boneless, so you have to eat it like a regular fried chicken (as opposed to bite-sized karaage fillets).

Not included in the picture was the free house tea which was one of the best house teas I've had -- it was black (or oolong?) and had a floral component to it. It might be jasmine?

The service was pretty good too--which is one of the reasons why I return to a restaurant (if the food is passable). Overall, not a bad date/hangout spot.
