Mamou
Let's get down to business: I am only at Mamou for one and only one thing alone. Their steaks.
Which I've heard TONS of good things about, so my expectations are off the roof.
Disclaimer (not really): I've eaten at Sage Bespoke Grill before (on my own dime). I melted at how divine their ribeye was. I'm expecting something at par with the one I had at Sage or even better.
I like ribeye so I got ribeye. At first glance I'm already concerned with how not thick this steak was. Well, it's better than La Cabrera's quarter-inch (?) steak for sure. They serve this with two sides in the size of a regular-sized ramekin, so the sides you're getting aren't that much to be honest.
They also season and cut it for you, which is good if you're lazy, but I want to cut my own steak. I don't mind that they peppered it with... pepper, but for those who might not be keen on peppers this isn't the best prep for them.
Okay--the disappointing part is that it's not as tender as I'd like it to be. It's definitely chewier than Sage's at the same doneness level (medium). They also serve it with crystal salt which is okay, but Sage does it better with I think around 8+ condiments you can brush/add to your steak (including salt).
It's not bad, but if I can afford to eat at Sage I would rather go there. Okay, okay: if you can't afford Sage you can totally go to Mamou. But not after you've gone to Sage.
PS. The free bread is also meh. But so was Sage's sad dinner rolls. I just can't win as a bread enthusiast.
P-PS. I'll make a Sage post when I dine there again.
