Kam's Roast

I know I've been hyping Kam's Roast for god knows how long. I can't help it; the first time I tried their char siu, I've never been converted to another restaurant since.

Toro char siu
If there's anything you need to order from Kam's Roast, it's this one. Toro char siu. It's not your regular char siu; it's the fattier relative of the char siu. It's ridiculously tender, even chopstick newbies can tear the meat apart with little difficulty. The edges of the char siu are sufficiently browned and you can taste the sweet, sticky glaze with every bite. The sauce perfectly complements the meat, albeit on the sweet side. I'm not complaining. It's so good with rice. And noodles. Really, you can't go wrong with this.

If you're a nonbeliever of what I said about toro char siu (barring necessary dietary requirements, then why are you here?) you can also try their other dishes, which I would rank from acceptable to exceeds expectations. Like this soya chicken. It's a decent soya chicken marinade. The meat is also ridiculously tender and juicy. The marinade/sauce is a good balance of salty, a bit of sweetness, and some aromatics too. I'm not too rambly about this one because why would I order this when the toro char siu exists?

Anyway. The noodles are something I'd recommend though. I would argue it's freshly-made, because it's springy when you bite it which is characteristic of freshly-made noodles. It looks like a thinner pancit canton noodle but I assure you, the smooth texture and the springy mouthfeel of their noodles are way beyond the freeze-dried grocery noodles.

I also recommend their homemade barley (served without the grains, thank goodness). It's got a relatively viscous consistency and may look or feel unappetizing but it provides a refreshing taste after all those roasts.

TFD's review - ♡♡♡♡♡ for the toro char siu alone.

Kam's Roast is located at 3/F Mega Fashion Hall, Ortigas.
