Mom & Tina's
A work meeting allowed my colleague and I to dine at Mom & Tina's at Sgt. Esguerra (in front of ABS CBN). It's been a while since they've closed up shop in Katipunan which was my go-to branch, so I'm excited to eat my favorites here again.
I should say that this restaurant is cozy and the ambience reminds me of American Girl series (with the cute but expensive dolls!). Perfect for tea-time, or any cute lunch / dinner meetings. I didn't take any photos but you can check out the pictures at the Mom & Tina's website. I'd like to refrain from putting up photos that aren't mine just to be on the safe side.
I've eaten several dishes at Mom & Tina's but I often return to my favorite, the Shepherd's Pie:
What's a shepherd's (cottage) pie? It's made up of ground meat with vegetables and a thick sauce and topped off with mashed potatoes (yum).
Mom & Tina's makes a pretty delicious shepherd's pie. I would say amazing, but unfortunately they can get inconsistent with the quality. A couple of years back I got a microwaved shepherd's pie from one of their branches. Oftentimes they serve it fresh, but when it's busy they don't consistently churn out freshly baked pies I guess? It's been over a year since I last ate here though, so I hope they've improved their consistency. Despite its flaws, it's still pretty darn delicious.
I also recommend their Paella Valenciana (not an authentic Spanish paella but sue me, I love the inauthentic version).
I highly recommend you try out Mom & Tina's pastries. Their cupcakes are delicious, but the chocolate cupcake (no photos, sorry) is the most decadent of all. The cupcake is moist and the frosting is made from chocolate fudge!!! You should try it and if you don't like it I'm judging you hard.
Mom & Tina's ensaymada is bite-sized but full of flavor. It's light, fluffy, with ample sugar crystals and a generous topping of shredded cheese. I can easily eat a dozen of these but my wallet says no ;_; My colleague, who is an avid Mary Grace ensaymada fan, said that it was delicious but she prefers the buttery sweet (but lacking in cheese!) Mary Grace ensaymada. Tsk. At least she recognized the greatness that is Mom and Tina's ensaymada.
Their brownies are also delicious, but don't be surprised to see that a PHP 40 (estimated) brownie is as small as a 2x2 ID photo. Although the brownie may look miniscule for the price, Mom & Tina's brownies are packed with flavor. The chocolate chip chocolate brownie has tons of chocolate chunks (not even chips! chunks from chocolate bars!) in every nibble.
Mom & Tina's serves a variety of dishes so it's easy to dine there--everyone will have something they can eat. I've never had a bad meal (even with the microwaved shepherd's pie).

Shepherd's pie is made from ground lamb (sheep meat). Cottage pie is made from ground beef. Mom & Tina's is made from ground beef but they call it Shepherd's Pie (but I'm not too fussed about it). |
